It seems it can be binary sometimes, even in yade examples we have some (e.g. hourglass.stl).
They can be viewed with your [2] nevertheless (great tool!).

What about trying to move a cube made of facets before sending the content of AEREO_RUOTATO_finale.txt (just lost my finger to scrooling this down)? It seems you have very basic problems in using yade, which are completely unrelated to the shape of an aircraft.
