I managed to narrow the issue down to "poisson" property in material.
For poisson=0.3 (as in the "periodic-simple-shear.py" example) the
unbalanced force reduces rather quickly. However, in the same example,
if we set  poisson=1.0, it takes significantly more time for the
unbalanced force to reduce below 1e-4.
