Bruno Chareyre proposed the following answer:
A dumb mis-placement of that line 196 [1] in a parallel loop. The result was actually non-deterministic.
That was nasty bug... thanks.
The fix is in branch fixPermForcesMultithread [2], hopefully merged soon.
