I'm happy to report that using an initial porosity of 0.37 I'm getting
non zero stresses during the whole phase. While I'm still not sure if
the results I'm getting are what I expected,  the particles are no
longer floating. This means that all along particles were not close
enough to guarantee that they don't have space to move freely, so I
suppose I have to reframe what I think is a reasonable porosity when
working with spherical particles.

This has been a problem for weeks for me, so thank you again for all
your help and time.
