Title:
  upgraded ec2 instance fails to init network at boot

Status in Init scripts for use on cloud images:
  New
Status in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  This is a bug for either the EC2 AMI maintainers or the cloud-init
  project.

  I launched a fresh Amazon EC2 m2.4xlarge instance running Ubuntu 12.10
  from ami-b8d147d1 (ubuntu-quantal-12.10-amd64-server-20130206), logged
  in, ran `sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade -y && sudo
  reboot`, and the machine failed to boot normally (did not respond to
  SSH nor ICMP PING). Looking at the system log in the EC2 console, it
  seems that the machine failed to initialize the network stack. A
  reboot initiated via the EC2 console ended up with the same results.
  System log is attached.

  When I try it again, here's the output from aptitude:

  $ sudo aptitude upgrade
