[Bug 1211582] Re: Filter user list by partial attributes

I'm going to ignore the mentions of "firstname" and "lastname", since
the patch above ignores them as well.

Up until now, a user's email address has been considered metadata on the
user that Keystone itself makes no guarantees or assumptions about. If
email is to be a first class attribute, I'd like to have a solid use
case on why Keystone needs to care about the attribute in addition to
"name" (which can also be an email address, for all keystone cares), and
then we need to talk about validation, backwards compatibility and
expectations across backends.

If someone would like to pursue this, let's pick up this discussion in a
spec. If you create one, please link it here for posterity.

Title:
Filter user list by partial attributes

Status in OpenStack Identity (Keystone):
  Opinion

Bug description:
Listing all Users is not practical for large organziations. Even
pagination won't be sufficient for non trivial user lists.

Keystone needs to support query parameters for winnow a list of user s
byt firstname, lastname, username, and email address.
