While I think your approach is very interesting, I, in particular,
would not be one to use it because I use very few apps maximized
and thus tabs would feel awkward.

And I agree with Paulo, workspaces are great for context-switching.
Inside a same workspace I leave windows related to same context.
This is very good for organizing my activities.
