Re: further problems 3810t ubuntu 64

Hi Rod,

I've just installed Skype and have troubles with the mic. I've just looked into the volume control for all the settings, but I think I overseen someone.
What exactly have you done to made it work with Skype (which are the sound-in setting in Skype) ?
I'm running also the 64bit Jaunty.

Thanks !

Regards,

Subject: Re: [Acertimeline] further problems 3810t ubuntu 64

Hi All,

Greetings from Ireland.

Firstly, big thanks for those responsible for setting up this list.

I've recently bought a Timeline 3810T Core 2 solo SU3500 1.4Ghz with 3GB RAM. I'm running 64bit Jaunty (dual boot with Vista).

Here's my findings so far:

--- Tested and working out of the box: ---

Graphics - no problems except for occasional screen flicker when screen brightness is low and some flickering in Compiz.

Camera - no problems

Soundcard - internal mic and speakers working. Did require volume control setup and config for skype

External bluetooth (my model doesn't have internal Bluetooth) - no problems
- Boris, I was seeing what you seemed to be seeing - and assumed it wasn't working. However, it doesn't work in Vista either - presing Fn+F3 shows up the BT icon with an X. Acer support told me some models don't have BT (despite being advertised as such). Does BT work for you in Vista, Boris?

--- Working after applying tweaks / fixes ---

HD - Install did work perfectly when I left BIOS SATA mode as AHCI. However, like Domenico, the drive stared acting up shortly afterwards and I reinstalled Jaunty with IDE turned on instead. Note: I haven't included any kernel options.

I upgraded to 2.9.30 this morning, but haven't tested AHCI mode yet. Has anyone had any luck with this?

The only other differences I noticed was more granualarity with the brightness settings.

Hibernate - Only seemed to work when I set up a 4GB SWAP space. (I remeber reading somewhere that linux needs at least as much swap as the machine has RAM to preform hibernate correctly - does anyone know if this is true?).

Note, it doesn't always hibernate correctly (I've never had a linux system that did 100%). It gets almost all the way when shutting down and hangs. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del show a message "stopping all md devices" then restarts the machine (can't remember if it wakes from hibernation at this stage - will test).

--- Not working ---

Battery - ubuntu states about 4hrs life. Tho, I've have gotten nearly 5hrs from a full charge this morning running medium brightness and not doing anything too intensive.

Suspend - having the same problems everyone else is describing. Would like to have this working.

Ethernet - atheros drivers did not 'make' for me. Errors here http://pastebin.com/f3535dc6d

Card reader - Memory Stick.

-- Not tested ---

External monitor (VGA or HDMI)

Card reader - SD

Hope we can get most things working. It's a nice little laptop and I couldn't face using windows on it.

Let me know if anyone wants further info of any config / log files.

Regards,

Rod.
