I'm using rc6, but I'd try rc7 if you are coming from 2.6.32.

Er, what?  The script below allows full dark (back light off) to full 
bright.  Are you saying the acpi_backlight=vendor causes a max 60% 
brightness problem?  The 2.6.32 kernel?  Something else?  Or the 
glitches are caused by 2.6.32?

Yeah, it's kinda ugly and dated, mostly specific to karmic.  I was kinda 
hoping for a wiki someplace that we could collect all the tricks for 
getting the most out of the ul30.
