I've never said that, and I understand why it's not possible to just
drop the python-based installer.  What I have said is that having to
choose between them confuses some users, and that some users are not
well served by either of them, such as people who want the all-in-one
installer and then later want to install loggerhead.

In other words I agree with your mail aside from that sentence :-)

I'm wondering if Python eggs or easy_setup would be a good alternative
to the python based installers.  I know Robert dislikes them, I think
primarily because they introduce yet another packaging system.  But
perhaps they are the best option for that case.
