[Bug 929904] [NEW] Skype icon does not function properly in Unity 5+ (Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2)

Public bug reported:

I am testing Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2 on the ThinkPad E525.

Since the upgrade to Unity 5+, the Skype icon doesn't appear in the bar
at the top of the screen. More importantly, the Skype icon that appears
in (or is locked to) the Unity menu bar doesn't allow the user to reopen
the window if another application is in the foreground, or the Skype
application has been minimised.

If the icon is clicked and the application is running, Ubuntu tries to
load another version of Skype, which freezes the first process but
leaves both of them running (requiring a kill -9).

Skype is a buggy POS at the best of times, but I suspect this issue is a
combination of Unity and Skype and not just the responsibility of
upstream, who probably won't be too quick to fix the issue before the
LTS lands.

Let me know what info you might need.

** Affects: skype (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
