[Bug 1078103] [NEW] Still no acroread for 64 bit precise

Public bug reported:

On a 64-bit install of precise, there's no way to install acroread.
Here's what doesn't work on my system:

- A direct install (via synaptic, software manager, apt-get or dpkg) of
acroread fails, because the only version available is a 32-bit version
from oneiric that depends on libraries that are uninstallable on
precise.

- Until today, I had a downloaded version from Adobe installed in /opt,
but a routine update broke that (and uninstalled several other packages,
including skype).

This traces back, at least in part, to the precise ia32-libs problem,
for which there appears not to be a solution. For a long-term support
release, this is terrible support, and I'm frustrated. What's the plan
/ timeline for getting this fixed? It's not as though acroread is
obscure software used by one user in a hundred...
