[Bug 2106212] Re: Injection of iptables commands in autopkgtest test bed breaks tests

Thanks for reporting.

This workaround has been added in 2016, at a time where the infra was
different in every way compared to what's running today. I'm personally
fine dropping that line, and simplifying our configuration, but I'll
just double check with the team that everybody agrees on this.

Title:
Injection of iptables commands in autopkgtest test bed breaks tests

Status in Auto Package Testing:
  New

Bug description:
The workaround for bug 1572026 [0] injects iptables commands into
  autopkgtest test bed setup.

This is problematic because it leads to test failures for system tests
  making use of nft [1][2][3][4].

As an example having this warning printed on stderr changes test outcome:
  # Warning: table ip mangle is managed by iptables-nft, do not touch!

Can the problem be solved in a different way so that the iptables command injection can be removed?
