In Ubuntu 11.10,
using compiz scale with minimized window workaround and enabling "show desktop on clicking desktop portion" causes this reproducible bug :

1. Activate scale windows. Click on desktop. All windows will minimize.
2. Now try using scale again. You will see nothing but if you click in between, you get the window back.

So basically I think that the preview is not kept when you minimize via
compiz scale. Please see it. Might be easy to fix and can remove the
invisible window thing. Btw, compiz is working quite well compared to
Natty.
