Re: Mehall's hat has been thrown

Seems that I hit send before I finished. I was saying that while he's a cool guy, but I've got more PMs from Hanna and Shift_Wreck about people misbehaving than I have Mehall. Not that it means much, just throwing it out there. :P

To add to my pervious reply (forgot a couple things), if we're up for
suggesting future OPS (whenever they may be needed) I think I'd suggest Hanna over Mehall. Not that I have anything against Mehall, I'm just not sure how well he'd be as an op. Of course that's more of a gut feeling than backed by any kind of evidence. He's a cool guy, but

It seems to me that at least one op is on at all times. He didn't give an
example of the trouble he was talking about, but I think (looking through the logs) he was talking about the argument between locks and Cope57. I was asleep during the time, and it doesn't seem like anyone else was up. My thoughts on it, though, is that most everyone in IRC will listen to anybody if they tell 'em to chill out. It doesn't take an OP to stop a conversation, only takes an OP to enforce it when someone won't listen. That being said, nobody even tried to stop 'em. If they had tried, and it didn't work, they could've PMd an OP and it wouldn't been taken care of in the morning. But, chances are, it could've been stopped by anybody just lettin' 'em know it's a support channel not a boxing ring.

Anywho, Mehall's a cool guy, so if you're gonna OP anyone else he's a
good choice as far as I can tell.

Hello list

I received a PM on the forums this afternoon from Mehall, contents:

Hey Philip,

I know I already suggested myself as a future mod, but I'd like to

suggest future IRC op as well.

We're having a bit of an issue atm with one or two people, and it just

reminds us on the IRC that we're a quickly goring channel, and that

some of the old ops aren't around as much as they used to be.

Well, I for one, am. Even when I'm not posting actively, I'm idling

with it in my yakuake window, so I can quickly check for any issues.

Just... throwin' my hat into the ring.

PS Even if you don't make me mod, I still suggest adding SOMEONE

else. Since we are a modern, growing distro, we do need proper

moderation of both the forum, and the IRC. I know we're fairly

informal, but all it takes is one person pushing it, and nobody to have

the authority to make them stop.

Thanks for your time.

As you are all probably aware, I am not the most active of IRC users

and so I thought it best to consult with those that are. So, does

anyone have any thoughts about this?
