Message #119062
[Bug 1455219] [NEW] Cannot connect to PPPoE using NetworkManager: Could not find pppoe binary.
Public bug reported:
TL;DR: NetworkManager requires "pppoe" package, which was not installed
by default in Lubuntu 15.04.
I tried using Network Manager (nm-applet) to configure a PPPoE connection. I can create the connection, but trying to connect to it fails.
The erro message that shows up in a dialog is not helpful at all:
(1) Creating object for path
'/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/23' failed in libnm-
glib.
What is helpful is a message buried in /var/log/syslog:
NetworkManager[713]: <warn> (eth0): PPPoE failed to start: Could not find pppoe binary.
Workaround: apt-get install pppoe.
Desirable solution: pppoe package being a dependency of another package
(lubuntu-desktop seems like a good one).
Using Lubuntu 15.04 (upgraded from previous versions). This is the first time configuring a DSL/PPPoE connection in this system.
** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
