[Bug 873760] [NEW] Oneiric 11.10 NVidia Proprietary Drivers Uninstallation Bug

Public bug reported:

Just upgraded to Oneiric 11.10.

After installing and then unistalling NVidia proprietary drivers on my
machine (Dell XPS 502x), Unity 3D could not be booted, and the system
fell back to Unity 2D after login.

Bug Reproduction

1) From additional drivers, select "NVidia-version-current" and press "Activate".
2) Restart system (optional - skip to save time)
3) From additional drivers, select "NVidia-version-current-updates" and press "Activate"
4) Restart system
5) From additional drivers, select "NVidia-version-current-updates" and press "Remove"
6) Restart system

Now, normally, after step 6, my computer should return to its factory
condition (Unity 3D worked just fine after upgrading to 11.10). Instead,
the system boots to Unity 2D, although at login I made sure "Ubuntu" was
selected (instead of "Ubuntu 2D").
