[Bug 1414278] [NEW] v14.04 screen garbled when waking from sleep w/external monitor
Public bug reported:
I have installed v14.04 LTS 64 bit on Acer Aspire One 722 and everything
works fine. I then connected an external monitor via HDMI. The external
monitor (a HDTV) displays the laptop screen correctly.
But when I close the screen of the laptop with the external monitor
connected (putting the laptop to sleep), and open the screen to bring
back the laptop out of sleep mode, the screen of the laptop and the
external monitor are black with some garbled characters. The only way to
recover the session is to shut power off abruptly, and cold boot the
laptop.
However, if I use the suspend button to put the laptop to sleep, and
then bring the laptop out of sleep mode, the laptop screen and the
external monitor display the desktop correctly.
Can someone please help me understand why closing the laptop screen
causes issues that are not present when I use the suspend command, and
point me to a solution?
