[Bug 529485] Re: Clicking on an application name should hide it if currently in focus

Ideally, I think a menu item representing an application -- whether it's
in the messaging menu, the sound menu, the clock menu, or anywhere else
-- should function the same as a Launcher tile for the application. If
the application isn't focused, it should become focused. If it is
already focused, it should invoke the same app-specific window switcher
as the Launcher does. And if the Launcher's behavior was changed to
minimize windows of an already-focused application, these menu items
should do the same thing.

Title:
Clicking on an application name should hide it if currently in focus

Status in “indicator-messages” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: indicator-messages

  Launchpad Question #102229

  https://answers.launchpad.net/indicator-applet/+question/102229

seems to have been overlooked, but raises an important issue.
If a messaging application is currently on focus, its entry on the
messaging menu becomes "dead", with no purpose. It would be
interesting if clicking on the item could hide the application, as
this is expected behavior (the tray icons for Empathy and
Gwibber did that before the Messaging Menu was introduced).
