I wonder why it's in /+junk/ and not in /scratch/.

In case you're into testing, the code can be pulled along with its build
dependencies, merged with latest trunk, and then built into .deb packages
for ease of your "dpkg -i *.deb" using:

$ grabit lp:scratch lp:~darcy-develin/+junk/scratch-experimental

grabit can be obtained from lp:~elementary-os/elementaryos/grabit
