So, from the looks of it, it seems that PackageKit is trying to install an
older version than the latest available from the archive, but as the system
already has newer versions of the dependencies, it refuses to install older
versions of dependent packages.

The question then is, should PackageKit not pass the version at all and let
apt pick the version it feels latest or most convenient (this cares also
about apt-preferences and holds marked upon packages) or should it have
better package version handling itself. I vote for the former.

I found version 0.8.17 in Debian jessie, should be possible to backport
that if you are interested.
