Is there a reason that evdev is kept back to 2.5.99? I compiled and
installed 2.6.0 and it seems to work OK (but the multitouch still isn't
working). Can someone let me know why this driver was downgraded as part
of the EMGD install? Is evdev 2.6.0 incompatible with xorg 1.9?

Update: the device ( /dev/input/event<#> ) seems to be generating
events. evtest and mtview are both succesful, though gesturetest and
ginn report nothing. See also this thread:

Bug description:
  On a fresh install of 11.04 (Natty) on the HP Slate 500 (which has the
  GMA 500), multitouch works fine. After adding the EMGD ppa and
  installing the driver, multitouch no longer works.
