It does sound interesting, but unfortunately it will probably be a fair
amount of work. I can't think of a clever way to get the existing
rendering code to do this without a lot of changes, though that doesn't
mean there isn't a way. Another approach (that I've been leaning towards
lately) is to plug another charting tool into Graphite's data. One user
in particular I know is working on integrating Graphite with this
awesome HTML5 graphing library, http://danvk.org/dygraphs/. The reason
it might be easier to do this in another library than with Graphite's
rendering engine is because most graphing libraries make few assumptions
about the data you want to visualize and have you explicitly provide the
axis labels, etc. Graphite's rendering engine on the other hand assumes
you are viewing a contiguous series of datapoints and thus you don't
have to tell it how to draw labels, etc.
