I was thinking about asking the user about it. Given the state: * file is corrupted * user doesn't have any better backup (our is up to 7 steps back)* the only smart answer to question "Do you want to restore your data?" given the situation is "YES OMG!"
You propose the third option - "Use new file". Why would you want to use a new file instead of reverting a few changes (what could be just changing a timestamp because of opening a task)?

It's a good idea to automate these steps indeed? But, do you warn the user about this? Maybe there should be some kind of dialog to inform the user. Something like: "Ooops, something wrong happened", "Do you want to restore this file (last modification is xx time old)?", "Restore", "Use new file", "Quit GTG". Bertrand
