Re: Sync Services in User Docs

Understand Sync Services
Sync Services allow GTG to synchronize (meaning to have access or to
import) tasks, notes or bugs from other sites or services
likeLaunchpadorRemember the Milk.
Also programs like Tomboy or GNote.
There are different types of synchronization:
*
Read-only synchronization: records the changes in task state from
the originating service in GTG but not the reverse. This means that
if you open one of the imported tasks and change the title,
description or tags your changes will be lost when the associated
task is modified on the originating service. You are free to set any
other field (start/due dates, subtasks...) as for those field your
changes will be preserved. This is useful to add personal
annotations to imported tasks.
An example might help. Their primary goal is to track things, e.g. bugs
assigned to you. You can't directly mark a task as done but GTG changes
it when you mark the associated bug as fixed.
*
Import synchronization
You don't have anything here. Importing is read only synchronization but
you change whatever you want. Think about twitter where you write "Test
this awesome thing #todo". GTG imports that task and you can change it
in any way you want. (GTG makes sure that no task is imported twice).
*
Full synchronization
Example with Google Tasks or Remember the Milk
To enable or disable GTG Sync Services in the main menu go toEdit ▸Setup
Sync Services.
Don't you miss a heading or something here?
List of available sync services in GTG:
Evolution tasks
Allows you to synchronize your GTG tasks with Evolution tasks. (read,
import or full?)
It is full. This task is currently disabled because of a bug between
PyGTK and python-evolution.
Identi.ca
Imports your Identi.ca messages into your GTG. (import?)
yep
Tomboy
Synchronize all or part of your Tomboy notes in GTG. (read, import or full?)
full
Launchpad
Allows you to import the Launchpad bugs assigned to you (or someone
else) in GTG. This is aRead-only synchronization.
It is general for the whole launchpad, not only GTG. There are many
projects hosted in Launchpad.
Gnote
This service can synchronize all or part of your Gnote notes in GTG.
(read, import or full?)
It is the same backend as Tomboy (they share the same API) and I would
put them together.
Remember the Milk
Synchronize your tasks with the web serviceRememberTheMilk. (read,
import or full?)
full
Local file
Allows you to store some tasks to a specific file on your hard disk
(other than the default file). (read, import or full?)
We should have discussion if local file should be a full featured syn.
service (you can add it in the dialog) or more a cache (all your tasks
are stored here and it allows you to work with shared tasks even when
you are offline).
It looks good :)
