Re: New experimental design for the task list
Hi Bertrand,
nice demo! I like it. My opinions:
Could you align tags to the left? Tags are important feature to
understand the title and the concept of task. It would be better to have
it in the same place: title + tags + title preview on the left side and
dates stuff on the right
What about showing also tags without color in the list of tags? Having a
tag without background should be enough. Tags are represented now by
their color and name. Why not show them there as well?
Toolbar is very experimental and it doesn't feel like GTG.
What about making search "invisible"? Instead of the permanent search
toolbar, you would have a temporal seach toolbar like in firefox. It
could work this way:
* you can show it using Control-F
* or when you start typing and the task list widget has the focus
The initial text of the search toolbar would be the current applied
tags, i.e. if you are already in tag @school and press n the toolbar is
shown with the initial query "@schol n". On this toolbar, there might be
a button to save the current search as a smart tag/saved search.
It might be nice to have a feature like that which behaves in similar
way in firefox.
Why did you move the WorkView button from the main toolbar to this new
one? It shouldn't really matter because it's on the plan to redesign it :)
I think, we should go with "smart" sorting where your tasks are sorted
by default by their urgency and you can rearrange them as you want. I
have some algorithm in mind and would like to work on that feature in
the following development cycle.
Can't wait to start merging your awesome prototype :)

Dear GTG-ers,
I have been playing with the task list layout lately in order to
implement some of the ideas alba and I presented in the latest months.
You will find the result of this work in the following branch [1] (note:
you will need to pull this liblarch branch too to get it working [2]).
I'm also including a screenshot for the lazy ones.
Some ideas are beginning to be quite mature (e.g.: the task cells in the
list) while others are still quite experimental (e.g.: the toolbar
allowing to configure the view).
If you have some time to look at it, I'd be interested to get your
feedback about this. Note that I think the view configuration toolbar is
going to change heavily. I'm watching closely the current design changes
on nautilus in particular, since this will certainly drive and influence
the navigational features implementation of most GNOME applications.
