Hello Bruno,
I'm not clear on what you mean.
Do you mean it is OK to install to $DATADIR/appdata whatever $PREFIX?
As I understand it we are required to install to /usr/share/appdata.  
Perhaps that is what you mean.
It now looks to me like I should be using the fixed path  
"/usr/share/appdata" .
