Running Vivid Vervet in Virtualbox 4.3.26 (on Windows 8.1) with latest
extensions installed, clean Ubuntu install, accessing an external hard
drive via USB, mounting an encrypted Truecrypt volume (and ntfs-3g). All
seems fine (mounting no problem; opening various files) until putting
some load onto the system (copying 2GB from the Virtualbox shared folder
to the USB drive), at which point the following happens (from syslog):

... followed of course by loads of I/O errors.

Didn't experiment much with trying to get the drive back online, but
shutting down Virtualbox, unplugging and re-connecting the drive, then
starting VB and Ubuntu again, does the trick every time. However, the
same problems keeps recurring.

This problem does not exist in an otherwise identical setup with Ubuntu
14.04. (Same version of Virtualbox to host Ubuntu; same version of
Truecrypt; but I don't think TC can be to blame anyway, since this seems
to be happening at the device level)
