Message #79891
[Bug 1358871] Re: USB 3.0 connection is unreliable + xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep
I can confirm the bug with Ubuntu 14.04 on Linux
* 3.13.0-35,
* 3.14.1,
* 3.16.2 and
* 3.17-rc4
on two machines
* Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 Touch with Lenvo BIOS 71CN45WW(V1.18)
* Lenovo U410 with Phoenix BIOS 65CN90WW
with all combinations of two different enclosures
* one with ESATA plug connected with USB 3.0 adapter
* one with USB 3.0 plug
(both with external power supply) and
* Western Digital WD50EFRX (5 TB)
* Samsung HD103SI (1 TB)
on
* USB 2.0 and
* USB 3.0 interface
An explanation can be found here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/210879
/external-usb-3-drive-not-recognized (doesn't fix the issue, though).
The bug seems to be known
* upstream: https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/3/6/284 (claims to be fixed in 3.14-rcX, but isn't (see above))
* Debian: https://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2014/03/msg00153.html (regression introduced in 3.13.5, relating to upstream)
* Fedora: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1103234 (seems to occur starting from version 18, still occurs in 3.15.x)
This seems to be a big, widespread issue for a bunch of people ("The
problem is still there in 3.14.4; I haven't seen a USB 3.0 drive work
for >6 months" [https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36296]).

Title:
USB 3.0 connection is unreliable + xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with
disabled ep
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
On Utopic 3.16.0-9-generic x86_64 kernel:
I'm using the Intel DQ77KB desktop board [1]. Apart from the board and
some disks and memory the computer has no other hardware. The board
has four usb 3.0 ports on the back. Using any of those ports, with my
USB 3.0 hub, with my phone triggers a swarm of messages like this:
xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep
ffff880354156900
If I connect the 3.0 hub via USB 2.0 hub instead, or use the 2.0 hub
directly all of the problems go away.
