[Bug 1391688] Re: Synaptic touchpad not working

 

Johnathon Henney, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/alienware-14/drivers an update to your BIOS is available (A09). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?  If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

  Synaptic touchpad not working

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Under 'cat /proc/bus/input/devices' I see my touch pad listed, and the
  touch pad is on on all settings, but when i use 'xinput --test [val]'
  there is no response from the touch pad. This happened ever since I
  installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS no more than two months ago. I am running
  a Alienware 14 I got back in January.
