[Bug 1391688] [NEW] Synaptic touchpad not working

Public bug reported:

Under 'cat /proc/bus/input/devices' I see my touch pad listed, and the
touch pad is on on all settings, but when i use 'xinput --test [val]'
there is no response from the touch pad. This happened ever since I
installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS no more than two months ago. I am running a
Alienware 14 I got back in January.
