Windows? Linux?

It's in fact all explained here:
ftp://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/cao/install.txt
<ftp://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/cao/install.txt>

In case of Windows, it's quite simple:

Download the zip file kicad-2006-08-28.zip (currently the latest
version) from here: ftp://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/cao/
<ftp://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/cao/> .

Simply unzip (no installation needed) it on your harddisk (no registry
fuzz or whatsoever).

Once the unzip action is done, go to the directory
<my_installation_path>/kicad/winexe and double-click kicad.exe. The
main screen should open where you can select eescheme, cvpcb, gerbview
or pcbnew.

In case of Linux, this is the way to go (taken from the install.txt)
file:

You do must have libc.so.6 (do not work with libc.so.5)
You must be "root".
goto /usr/local
Untar kicad-yyyy-mm-dd.tgz : tar zxvf kicad.-yyyy-mm-ddtgz (ou unzip
kicad-yyyy-mm-dd.zip)
In kicad/library, untar doc_components-yyyy-mm-dd.tgz (or unzip
doc_components-yyyy-mm-dd.zip)
The main program is /usr/local/kicad/linux/kicad
If you use KDE, users can copy the shortcut
/usr/local/kicad/linux/kicad.desktop
in <user home directory>/Desktop and use it to run kicad.
That's it... You can start using the program.
