Also for import/export, it is still way more supported than ps or svg... I know a teacher which prepares tests importing hpgl plots in word documents:P 

Also there are people with real pen plotters (too bad they don't make them anymore, there IS a difference in quality and ink with inkjets...) making films for home etching PCBs (toner and inkjet ink are way too transparent for UV, you need to overlap two identical prints... when mechanical tolerances in printers give you two identical prints!)

And anyway HPGL is already finished :P
