Re: Rnv: Re: Starting with Spanish GUI translation

Solved, thank you.
I will be updating the .po file in the Github branch.
It will be updated daily, to follow Nick's Windows
installers builds.

Un saludo.

Hola, Iñigo.

The git distributed version control system makes it easy for whoever
maintains the Launchpad branch of KiCad to pull in all the changes you
make to the github branch, or vice versa.
So post your changes to whichever branch is easiest for you.

Have you seen
http://code.launchpad.net/~stambaughw/kicad/doc-read-only
?
If I understand that correctly:

The KiCad stuff on Launchpad is frozen. All active development happens
at github.
The latest version is at
http://github.com/KiCad/kicad-i18n and
http://github.com/KiCad/kicad-doc .
It is impossible to post any new changes to the Launchpad branch.

I may have mis-understood.
It wouldn't be the first time. ;-)

Saludo.

Shouldn't it be merged in the Launchpad branch?

Hola, Iñigo,

Thank you very much for working on the Spanish translation of KiCad.

Please go ahead and share what you have done so far.
Don't wait until you are "finished" translating.

I think the best way to contribute these changes is as a github "pull
request".

I'm still learning how to use git myself.
My understanding is that actually doing it is easier than written
descriptions make it sound:

Assuming that you've already logged on with your github account (see
"Signing up for a new GitHub account (free)" for details), it only
takes 6 clicks:

1. Click on a link to a file you want to improve, such as
https://github.com/KiCad/kicad-i18n/blob/master/es/kicad.po
or
https://github.com/KiCad/kicad-doc/blob/master/src/gui_translation_howto/gui_translation_howto.adoc

2. Click on the pencil icon (next to the "Raw | Blame | History" buttons)

3. Make improvements to the file. (In theory, you can do this
in-browser. In practice, I find it convenient to copy-and-paste
everything to a text file on my computer, use my favorite text editor
to make changes, and then copy-and-paste the entire file back into the
web browser window).

4. Summarize the improvements in the "Propose file change" description box.

5. Click the "Propose file change" button.

6. Click the "Create pull request" button.

Done!

Saludo.

I am about the 26% of the translation now, so it looks like I will need
three or four weeks to finish it. I hope it will be ready for the stable
release.

Is this mailing list a good place to post the files?

Iñigo.
