OK.

Oliver, I assume that your goal is to increase the ease of making 
contributions to the footprint plug-in source.  Is that accurate?

If so, maybe we could add a few targets to the KiCad source that allow 
Python devs to install plug-ins without compiling the full codebase.  
Would that help?
