I'm seeing dozens (36 to be exact) of asserts on startup under GTK3:

./src/gtk/menu.cpp(729): assert "Assert failure" failed in SetBitmap(): 
only normal menu items can have bitmaps

I haven't tracked it down yet, but it's probably one per "checkbox" menu 
item.

I can file a bug if you prefer.
