I don't disagree with you, but I haven't heard anything from these
projects. I'd like to know more about their concerns, do you have
anything that could help me follow this up?

Well, even separately from the branding issue, it's removing a step
for people who already have openids.
I'm not convinced that Ubuntu branding would scare people off. First,
I don't think Ubuntu branding is that scary. Second, I think that a
little bit of copy could significantly reduce the "you are now
Ubuntified" aspect.
I more readily believe that people will be put off simply by yet
another password confirmation dialog.
