Yes, it works with non-Launchpad branches.  It should work with all
project branches, regardless of project.  I haven't tested it with
sourcepackage branches, so that may be the problem.

You do need to have a link to a branch on Launchpad, e.g. your push
location or public location needs to be known.  You can often configure
that just once in your locations.conf, e.g.

[/home/barry/projects/ubuntu]
push_location = bzr+ssh://bazaar.launchpad.net/~barry/ubuntu
push_location:policy = appendpath

Pushing it should have set the push location, so I'm guessing the
problem is that it's a sourcepackage branch.
