Well, the reason I made my suggestion is that it was nearly unusable
before the last round of optimisations. I certainly favour incremental
development, but where we know we've got problems it makes sense to
put a little effort into avoiding regressions.

So you can file my suggestion under 'you can tell its not much worse
if it still works with large (2K item) queues on Ubuntu on dogfood.'
