-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I am going to make myself clear as I said before. And I would prefer the response of some in charge of the Beta Testers team or Canonical. Let me take a hypothetical example. Let me say me real, actual name (like that on my passport) is not Cyrus Jones, but rather Inghstesrt Gh Alberhisoneas. This name has no results on Internet search queries, such as Google. Compare that with Cyrus Jones. There are plenty of results on the Internet, although it is quite possible that other people exist under that name as well. Why can't Cyrus Jones be used, especially when it is an online identity. Even people who are only comfortable with two realistic names should be satisified. For all practical purposes, Cyrus Jones is the person's real name; Inghstesrt Gh Alberhisoneas is both an awkward name and not mentioned. Could someone in charge please respond? Additionally, let us take the case of authors of books. Many used pen names. Some used pen names to disguise themselves for a limited period of time, like in the case of female writers like Charlotte Brontë. However, other people like Samuel Langhorne Clemens used the pen names permanently, making their pen name much more noticed and important as their book writing identity than their real name. Mark Twain vs. Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Even though this is a well known example, Mark Twain nearly 100 times as many as many results on a Google web query in comparison with Samuel Langhorne Clemens. See the point? As said before, is this some kind of registration where we need background checks. Even if we accept the belief (which I don't necessarily agree with) that a person must use their realistic name (specifically two or three names), it is unbelievable that a realistic pseudonym cannot be used, especially when no one can tell the difference (and as in the hypothetical example, is the only name to have a background on the Internet). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHwEghgmu+rEIQLtwRAmNvAJ0QPoMatq7hUe4BBdXHZgnepqxcFgCfQBqo XPs6WxqnHidsvjV649YkHyQ= =Iy8o -----END PGP SIGNATURE------ On Sat, Feb 23, 2008 at 5:38 AM, Sarah Hobbs <hobbsee@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > > Scott wrote: > > Sarah Hobbs wrote: > >> A name is just that - a means of representing someone.
