Re: Name of the software/service

Long story short, in order to avoid any kind of trademark issues, I want to open the discussion if anybody is against renaming the software and the service to ivatar.

Of course libravatar.org domain should stay and serve the requests, as it does now! And the new software is still a fork of what Francois developed of the years and I don't want to forget our legacy!

There are multiple things currently named Libravatar:

* The protocol: Libravatar ;
* The domain name: libravatar.org ;
* The hosting service: libravatar.org ;
* The software: Libravatar version 0.1.

Changing the name of the protocol would be weird as it is what we try to protect. The domain name libravatar.org is its official home with its documentation. Again, no reason to change it.

The name of the software is up to you to choose as its author and the footer at the page https://avatars.linux-kernel.at/ is right at this.

What can be modified to appease the Fedora team is the name of the hosting service, which is currently tied to libravatar.org but doesn't need to. We can move it to a separate domain with a new name, either libravatar2, ivatar or whatever, and point to it from libravatar.org as an officially endorsed service.

Thus your implementation would not be mixed with the documentation and landpage of libravatar.org. This one could then be a simple, static web page.

What do you think ?

Regards.
