I know the default editor in Lubuntu is not user-friendly, and its
interface is really "ugly", so I have another suggestion. Take a look at
this editor GNU Paint (gpaint), it's like MSPaint, but has a few image
effects. It has no dependencies at all, and it's easy to use (too much,
I think):
