Re: Lubuntu games

Hm, I think that the completeness of lubuntu is quite important. We also aim at people who own an old computer and just want to write some letters and emails. Of course it's no problem for us to install games to our pc with lubuntu, but these people won't know how to do that. They will look for a 'games' section in the menu, and because there isn't such a section they will think that there are no games for lubuntu. Ok, there are hundreds of great games in the repos, but what if the users who never really worked with a pc won't ever look in the repos or even install something from there? We don't need many games. We already had the topic, I think we agreed on one tetrisclone (tint?) one game with cards and maybe also xinv3d. They are lightweight, have no dependencies and are just some kb afaik. The people who use lubuntu for a server know how to remove the games if they don't want them, but many others wouldn't know how to add them if we didn't include them in the final distro. So in my opinion it's clear: two or three little games and everone will be happy :-)

Best regards,
Jo

I think that games are a very personal thing. One should have the games he likes (for example, I installed Extreme Tux Racer and Wormux), not a set of pre-defined games that he may or may not like. And since Lubuntu aims for low-end machines, servers in which the owner wants a graphic environment, and the like, maybe we should let the user what games he wants or doesn't want.

A small suggestion, checked out the forum and understand the
considerations for and against having default games installed viz...
o not too 'weighty' to weigh down the lubuntu distro
o need to have some games to show 'completeness' of lubuntu.
May I suggest fltk1.1-games as a pre-installed game base?
It is small, quite fun to play? (I don't really know, not a games type
of guy), but at least, it's something.
