Fwd: Re: Booting Natty Alpha 2 does not load X
I decided to share this email with the mailing list.
Dwain, do you have Xorg at all then? Any binaries or even installed?
"dpkg -l xorg |less" tells more.
Can you pop-in to #Lubuntu @ Freenode IRC Network? (irc.ubuntu.com for
example)

Benny - thanks for the clue. Your guess is correct. I know all about
cat/less/more - but thanks for looking out for me Andrew.
However, once booted, and I find myself at the bash prompt, there is no
Xorg.log! There is no Xorg. anything in /var/log. Looking at dmesg and
syslog give no real clues.
I have had a lot more experience with Red Hat'ish Linux, and I was just
wondering where logs like this might be on Lubuntu.
So mystery deepens.

You can start checking with command
"cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log"
Might give some hints.

less /var/log/Xorg.0.log
will make it readable, cat will make it all scroll off the page
Somehow I assumed that someone who is running Alpha version of
certain OS is capable of using |more, or even |less.
I will try to be a little more specific with commands next time.
