Re: The 20120301-powerpc image is ok

I'll give that a try later today.

I do remember a fglrx error (module not found) and framebuffer device error when I entered startx at the command prompt.

That's what leads me to believe its another graphics card issue.

I'll also be trying the 20120301.1 desktop iso on my G4 eMac to see if I can get past the Keyboard layout install menu.

Sincerely,
Paul Gorski

Hi Paul,

we are grateful of your time, do not feel pressurised into testing things, or a need to apologise!

For the G3 issue, can you please do the following...

(18:00:46) bdmurray: for the g3 rerun the install and at the end of the install run ubuntu-bug ubiquity to get the log files from the install
(18:01:09) bdmurray: then a picture of the boot failure and probably dmesg from the "command prompt"

Many thanks for your continued assistance,

Phill.

Sure, I'll file a bug report.

I think its an old problem that keeps cropping up with PPC Linux, ATI graphics on the all-in-one Macs.
There have been problems for years with getting the various distros to work on those older iMac G3s.

What I'd like to do is try another install, and watch the first boot after the install again.
I seem to remember the word "Powerbook" flashing across the screen before booting to the command prompt.

I won't be able to re-run the install for another 8 hours though.

Sincerely,
Paul Gorski

Hi Paul,

I've just had a chat on testing area Can you raise a bug against ubiquity for the G3 problem, give as much information as you can and email me back the bug number.

Many thanks,

Phill.

Hi Lars,

could you update http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/208/builds for the type of installation you chose (I'm guessing guided) I'm just awaiting on whether to file the bug against ubiquity or gparted re: extra partitions.

Regards,

Phill.

I've installed the power pc image and it seems to work ok

        [ ] precise-alternate-powerpc.iso 01-Mar-2012 00:39
653M Alternate install CD for Mac (PowerPC) and IBM-PPC
        (POWER5) computers (standard download)

I notice that in the partitioning if guided, resize is selected, then it
creates an extra swap partition in addition to any that might already be
there. Also, an extra boot partition gets created.

/Lars
