Update via update manager from 11.10 to 12.04 went wrong

I tried to update to 12.04 on a netbook (Samsung NP-150) but that
update went badly wrong.

First a small issue: During installation i was asked if >Desktop<
should be renamed to the standard language (German) term
(>Arbeitsfläche<), the files there would not be touched. Si i said
yes, but unfortunately, the files are gone! :-(

The main issue is: lubuntu-core, lubuntu-default-settings,
lubuntu-desktop are not configured because of unresolved dependencies
(lightdm-gtk-greeter is not configured). I tried to do sudo
dpkg-reconfigure lightdm, no effect. Then i purged all lightdm and
tried to re-install it. I can't. Strangely internet is not working
(wicd does not recognize a router - that might be due to a conflict
with network-manager which came with the update; network-manager
connects to the router but does not connect to the internet. BUT: the
router is fine - with this other computer i'm writing on in this
moment and which is connected to the same router i get into the
internet!).

Actually, i still have lxdm as display-manager but so far i can only
login to LXDE not to lubuntu. May be there is missing some piece, or
there is some wrong setup, i've no idea at this point.

TIA for any suggestion.
