Re: Over Size iso's
Well I can't make that much of a comment based on such little info but if
you mess with our video drivers it will be the death of PPC ;-)
I would like no know more about this new kernel format as well as the new
binaries. Honestly I'm more concerned (maybe excited) about the effect of
these than oversized isos.
My feeling is that right now we have a lot of G3 users. These early
machines are the ones that will be most affected by large images whereas
newer machines can handle DVDs.
On the other hand, those machines are best taken care of through an
alternate install so as long as those are ok we should be fine.
At this point I would strongly advocate only having the alternate. I would
love to provide a live CD for people to test with, but between wireless and
video, and the fact we have limited resources to ensure it works right,
expecting desktop to work for most people is an unreasonable expectation.
When I first started looking for Linux for my Mac, I looked specifically
for live CDs because I wasn't ready to commit without knowing it would
work. I can't imagine I'm the only one that felt that way. Us PPC users
know that we are pretty unsupported, even by Apple. However, if we can make
alternate really work well, even if it is through documentation, I think it
will put people's minds at ease.
That's my 2¢.
