Re: PPC: Live CD will not boot to GUI
Hi James,
First, let me clarify I meant "Control-Alt-F*" to get to a console.
I am also sent back to a root prompt when I use "sudo shutdown -r
now". But, if I "Control-Alt-F7" to get back to the original screen,
under the flashing dots is a message which basically says to remove
the installation cd (if any) and hit return to restart. Then, the
computer will restart.

I downloaded and tried to install the most recent Kubuntu PPC LiveCD
Daily. I had the same result as Keith. The flashing dots screen is
where I stop. I can also get into a console, but I cannot sudo
restart from it: I keep getting sent back to a root prompt. I can
sudo shutdown from it, however.
The Ubuntu Server PPC Daily loaded and booted properly. I was able
to login and get to a terminal window.

@Phil
As you requested yesterday, I attempted to boot the Ubuntu 13.10
Live iso. It acted the same as the Lubuntu 13.10 Live iso-- it would
not progress past the text screen with the 4 flashing dots
(plymouth?). For the record, I was never able to boot the Ubuntu
13.04 Live iso, either.
I can "control-F*" and get to a console, and restart or shutdown
with "sudo shutdown -r now" or (-h now) to shutdown. I can also run
"dmesg | less" and generate a report. I'm not yet sure if that
report is useful.
I tried "ubuntu-bug syslinux" and got a message that no such package
for syslinux existed.
About a week ago, I tried the Kubuntu Live iso and got the same
results.
