OK. I have installed 14.04.2 LTS. Here are my notes, hope you find them
useful:-
Trusty Tahr lubuntu alternate 14.04.2 files
SUMMARY
=======
Creating an install USB flash drive using UNetBootIn 603-1 is broken.
The rest of this message details how to overcome this.
After installing lubuntu, tried a few apps. Firefox has 1 problem - when
you are browsing the net, URLs in the address bar are solid black and grey
rectangles. I think that I've come across that problem before.
Tried a couple of other apps (file manager, paint) and they seemed OK
Ran Software Updater and there were no updates to be applied.
DETAIL
======
Put onto ORANGE USB memory stick.
Downloaded Wednesday 4th February 2015.
Computer used for testing "detroit".
Dell Optiplex GX50, 1.9GHz Celeron, 512MiB RAM, CD-ROM, USB
Folder moved into ~/isos/lubuntu alternate 14.04.2

Failed to boot into installer, giving this as a repeating error message:-
"Failed to load COM32 file menu.c32"
START : Found some instructions via Google:-
copy the below files from /usr/lib/syslinux/bios/ to the root of USB drive
and then boot with the USB device.
1. libcom32.c32
2. menu.c32
3. libutil.c32
Update:
If the above files were not enough and if you are getting the below message
as Taipan in comments observed,
Failed to load COM32 file vesamenu.c32
I use Ubuntu & the version of UNetbootin supplied by its repositories is
version 603. When I use this I get the same problem as you.
By going to http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ you can download version 608
which is the latest version, having been released in August 2014.
END OF Instructions found via Google
The missing files were found at /usr/lib/syslinux/modules/bios
ian@newton:/usr/lib/syslinux/modules/bios$ cp libcom32.c32
/media/ian/ORANGE/
ian@newton:/usr/lib/syslinux/modules/bios$ cp menu.c32 /media/ian/ORANGE/
ian@newton:/usr/lib/syslinux/modules/bios$ cp libutil.c32 /media/ian/ORANGE/
ian@newton:/usr/lib/syslinux/modules/bios$ cp vesamenu.c32
/media/ian/ORANGE/
Booted from memory stick and I selected "install" from the UNetBootIn menu.
It asked me which groups of packages to install. Went for the lubuntu
packages.
Install succeeded.
