It doesn't quite cover every feature, as running a command in a
terminal still requires two steps (open terminal, run command). It is
none-the-less an improvement over the current dash.

 
Not really, because applications targetting the console subsystem automatically open a terminal on Windows. If you happen to have a WinXP/Vista/7 installation lying around, hit Win+R (for WinXP) or Win (otherwise) and type "ping google.com". A terminal pops up automatically.

If you do the same on Unity Alt-F2 Dash, you'll just create a zombie process - not very nice.
